Summer Teaching
Teaching undergraduate courses in the summer is an excellent opportunity for VCU Psychology graduate students to teach our talented undergraduate students and get some classroom teaching experience.
To be considered for a summer teaching appointment, graduate students must complete an application process that opens late each fall term. Note that although we aim to accommodate all qualified graduate student applicants for summer teaching positions, we cannot guarantee all interested students will be able to teach in the summer, nor can we guarantee that an interested student will receive the assignment and/or schedule that they wish. There are a number of factors that are considered in assigning summer teaching assistantships including (but not limited to) the needs of our undergraduate students, our faculty’s teaching preferences, student past performance in GTA/DA/GRA positions and limited sections for some courses.
Before applying, please ensure that you meet the requirements:
- Master’s degree, earned or will be completed by May before the summer you wish to teach
- Completion of PSYC 795 *
- Teaching mentor: Meet with a faculty mentor who has taught the course and agrees to be available to mentor you
* In rare situations, students may petition for an exception based on equivalent experience; equivalency determined by director of undergraduate studies.
